THURSDAY, May 22 (HealthDay News) -- A hefty dose of probiotics -- the "good" bacteria found in yogurts and supplements -- helps adult gastric-bypass patients lose even more weight, researchers are reporting.
The researchers didn't set out to see if probiotics could help the patients shed more pounds, said Dr. John M. Morton, associate professor at the Stanford University School of Medicine, who presented the findings this week at the Digestive Disease Week 2008 meeting in San Diego.

) Hazards are par for this course
Hazards are par for this course Baghdad golf has far more than rough lies and uneven greens. COMPILED FROM WIRE SERVICES Monday, May 19, 2008 Hazards are par for this course
Despite its location — a war zone — the nine-hole Crossed Swords Golf Course in Baghdad is popular among military personnel looking for a golf fix. The 479-yard layout is closed in by concrete blast walls and has dirt "greens," and the holes are emptied baked beans cans sunk into the ground. There is only one sand trap — who would have guessed? — but plenty of other hazards: the threat of rockets, mortar fireand gunfire.
"I would challenge Tiger Woods to a round at the Green Zone course any day," wrote Bradley Brooks of the Associated Press. "Just to see how his steely concentration would hold up when the mortar alarm blares: 'Incoming! Incoming! Take cover!' and shells land nearby."

) Why DOJ dismissed case vs. Ayala Land in Glorietta blast
The Department of Justice (DOJ) did not give much weight to the evidence provided by the Ayala Land Inc. (ALI) that last year's deadly blast in Makati city's Glorietta 2 mall was caused by a bomb explosion. It favored the police theory that it was actually a gas explosion, resulting from the accumulation of methane and diesel—in critical levels—in the mall's basement.
“The probability of a biogas explosion has been clearly established," it said in the 51-page resolution released today.
But the DOJ absolved the mall owners, the Ayalas. Its reason is simple: “It is uncontroverted that the Makati Supermarkt Building is owned by the Makati Supermarket Corporation (MSC) not by Ayala Land Inc. (ALI), which are separate and distinct entities," it said in the resolution. More>>
